5 Photo Award names prize after Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami

The 5 Int'l Photo Award in Iran unveils new prize named after late filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

The 5 International Photo Award in Iran has unveiled a new prize named after the late prominent Iranian filmmaker and photographer Abbas Kiarostami.

The Abbas Kiarostami Gold Camera will be given to the winner of the New Look section at the event.

The design of the trophy is Kiarostami’s hands holding a golden camera.

“Numerous photographers from Italy, Japan, France, Turkey and several other countries submitted their works to the festival, therefore, we decided to establish the prize to represent our country,” head of the 5 International Photo Award, Mehdi Shadizadeh, said.

“The New Look section focuses on photos in which the composition is no longer important; concepts, creativity and photomontage play the key role in this section,” he added.

The 5 Photo Award is an international event for “photography and video art”, website of the event reads.

It aims to build “a bridge between different countries and cultures”.

The name of the festival “5” is inspired by Kiarostami’s film “Five”.

The Abbas Kiarostami Gold Camera will be awarded for the first time at the 4th edition of the 5 Photo Award ceremony, to be held on June 22.
